About the role

This position is located in the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Facilities Services Directorate (FSD), Facilities Operations and Services Division (FOSD). Your background must demonstrate a full range of the following for each grade level: To qualify at the WG-05 level, your background must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of a WG-05 Electrician Helper under close supervision. This includes 1) performing simple, routine tasks such as pulling wire, mounting boxes, bending conduit, and 2) maintaining tool and job site organization. Performs simple routine tasks with minimum supervision. To qualify at the WG-08 level, your background must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of a WG-08 Electrical Worker under normal supervision. This includes 1) assisting higher-grade electricians with major installations, 2) repairing standard electrical components, and 3) using common trade tools and test equipment. I work under general supervision of a work leader or journey-level Electrician who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to ensure they are properly performed.??????? To qualify at the WG-10 level, your background must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of a WG-05 Electrician Helper under close supervision. This includes 1) performing simple, routine tasks such as pulling wire, mounting boxes, bending conduit, and 2) maintaining tool and job site organization as an expert with a high degree of independence. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is ???????Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) JOB ELEMENTS: Those who meet the minimum level of experience and training for the screen-out element will then be evaluated in each of the following job elements: Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Trouble Shooting (Electrical) PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: The employee performs work throughout the Pentagon Building that require incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, crawl, and climb stairs up to 5 stories. The employee must be able to walk considerable distances on a regular basic. The employee also works in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and may be required to make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolds and platforms where equipment may be in hard to reach places. The employee may be required to lift equipment and tools up to 40 lbs in weight and occasionally over that amount. The employee must be capable of passing a physical exam to wear a respirator for periods of several hours at a time. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is generally performed inside buildings, shops and office areas chat arc well lighted, heated and ventilated. ???????There is occasional exposure to shocks and burns from live wires. The employee may be required to work in dirty, dusty and greasy environments. Injury to eyes may result form falling dust, dirt, or chips of plaster caused by drilling holes for fastening electrical equipment. There is a danger of cuts, bruises, eye and hand injuries due to 1he use of powered tools. As work requires, the employee may also work outside building in cold, damp, or hot weather, and in tunnels, manholes or other underground areas.
