Responsibilities

- Perform laboratory testing on automotive materials (metals, plastics, leathers, paint, composites) and components following established procedures.
- Conduct standardized quality tests (tensile, impact, corrosion, vibration, fatigue) and document results accurately.
- Maintain sample traceability and ensure data is recorded in accordance with laboratory requirements.
- Support root cause analysis and material defect investigations by gathering data and assisting in analysis.
- Operate laboratory equipment and perform routine calibration and maintenance under established guidelines.
- Prepare test reports and communicate results to engineering, supplier quality, and manufacturing teams.
- Assist in evaluating materials against company specifications and industry standards.
- Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with ISO/ASTM/SAE standards and laboratory procedures.
- Stay informed on laboratory practices, materials, and testing methodologies to support ongoing development.
- Location & Travel Expectations :
- This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Blythewood, South Carolina
- This role requires 4-5 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.
- Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time. Passport and valid driver's license required.
Requirements
- Education & Experience
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a technical field (Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering) or equivalent laboratory experience.
- 2+ years of relevant work experience.
- Chemistry background or laboratory chemistry experience preferred.
- Exposure to materials testing or quality assurance in a laboratory, manufacturing, or automotive environment preferred.
- Skills & Knowledge
- Familiarity with standard testing methods (tensile, fatigue, impact, corrosion).
- Basic understanding of automotive and manufacturing quality standards (ISO, ASTM, SAE).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data entry/reporting tools.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow defined procedures and processes.
- Ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
- Effective communication skills to share test results and support team discussions.

- Ability to stand for extended periods while conducting lab work.
- Ability to lift and move test samples/equipment as needed.
