What We Can Achieve Together: The Conservation and Fisheries Coordinator support conservation and fisheries activities across Kosrae within the Micronesia & Polynesia Chapter. This position provides administrative, research, project management, and technical assistance to program staff, communities, and partners working toward the achievement of protection, conservation, stewardship, and sustainable fisheries goals. The role is based in Kosrae and is a fixed-term 3-year position, renewable subject to funding . Essential Functions The Conservation and Fisheries Coordinator plays a central role in advancing conservation and sustainable fisheries management in Kosrae. The position manages conservation and fisheries data, supports planning processes, and develops project packages and maintains project records. The Coordinator is expected to conduct both fieldwork and office-based analysis. Core responsibilities include biological sampling of coastal fisheries species, species identification, enumeration, and data entry, as well as leading fisheries stock assessments. Responsibilities also include supporting anchored Fish Aggregating Device (aFAD) programs and effective engagement with communities in the development and implementation of fisheries projects and management plans. Beyond technical duties, the Coordinator organizes and facilitates meetings, activities, and events with communities, government agencies, and partners; develops outreach and training materials; and trains, coordinates, and manages interns, volunteers, and contractors. In addition, the position contributes to program budget preparation, monitoring, and fundraising support, helping to secure resources and sustain long-term conservation and fisheries initiatives. Through this multifaceted portfolio, the Conservation and Fisheries Coordinator ensures that Kosrae's conservation and fisheries programs are effectively implemented, community-driven, and resilient. Responsibilities and Scope May lead or monitor work groups consisting of staff, interns, and volunteers covering a wide geographic area. Financial responsibility may include working within a budget to complete projects, negotiating and contracting with vendors, assisting with budget development and fundraising targets. Building strong networks with fishers, conservation partners, government officials, donors, board members, and the public. May work under minimal and/or physically distant supervision and may make some independent decisions based on analysis, experience and context. May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances. Must have valid driver's license and good driving record.
