About the role

Postdoctoral Research Fellow This ARIA-funded full-time post is available from 1st July 2026 till 30th September 2027. The starting salary will be from £ 43,482 on Grade F, depending on knowledge, skills and experience. This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working - some time on campus and some from home. The Role Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate or Fellow to participate in developing a machine learning method to spatially optimise habitats for genetic diversity. The successful applicant will, as part of a wider team, develop and use scientific software to perform simulations and develop and implement machine learning approaches. The post will include: Software development in Python and other programming languages, Performing large-scale simulations, Analysis of simulation results, Machine learning training and inference, Drafting manuscripts. About You The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events. Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to: Develop or adapt existing software systematically using good research practice including, but not limited to, version control, Independently perform scientific simulations in the field of population biology and/or population genetics, Adapt existing and develop new approaches to analyse data of said simulations, Work independently with limited supervision, Draft manuscripts to high quality independently.
