About the role
The Postdoctoral Fellow I will serve as a scientific contributor, executing research activities under the technical direction and mentorship of the Principal Investigator. The Postdoctoral Fellow I will contribute to the development of in silico physiological models of hemorrhage, integration with large-animal experimental data, and execution of independent verification and validation (IV&V) studies to evaluate emerging medical technologies. This position is 100% onsite at the Uniformed Services University Offsite 4DBio³ Laboratory in Rockville, MD. A thorough government background check will be administered. About the Program The USU Center for Biotechnology develops and applies advanced biotechnologies to enhance the readiness, health, and well-being of America's Warfighters, veterans, and families. It champions a multidisciplinary approach that unites DoD and federal researchers, clinicians, academic collaborators, and industry partners across traditional and emerging scientific fields. The Center's research spans a broad portfolio including advanced imaging, on-demand blood products, organ-on-chip and micro physiological systems, wound care, traumatic brain injury diagnostics, and point-of-need medical devices. The Geneva Foundation serves as the nonprofit partner for 4DBio³, managing the federal grants and cooperative agreements that support the Center's research, education and training, and scholarship activities.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate and assist the Principle Investigator, Co-Investigators and research team in the performance the research study
- Contribute to the drafting and submitting of abstracts, manuscripts and reports for dissemination
- Prepare progress reports on research as required
- Analyze and write-up data
- Present complex information effectively to a range of audiences
- Provide data management assistance
- Provide project close-out support
Requirements
- PhD or MD required
- 1-2 years medical research project management experience strongly desired, preferably with Department of Defense
- Specialized knowledge of triboelectric charge on particles in helical gas/solids pipe flow systems and the effect of electric charge on particle-pair relative velocity in isotropic turbulence
- Experience in creating in silico and/or in vitro models of cardiovascular systems
- Experience in creating hardware and software for micro-shock tubes for study of blast overpressure
- Knowledge of military system, preferred.
- Demonstrate competence in oral and written communication
- Must be organized, attentive to detail, and possess a positive, friendly and professional demeanor
- Ability to be flexible with changing priorities and available to interact with employees, clients and sponsors of all levels
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in fast-paced, high-pressured environment with strict deadlines and to manage multiple projects
- Computer skills including at least intermediate level experience with Excel and other Microsoft Office SoftwarE
