Job Profile: Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) Pediatric Hospital Medicine | Department of Pediatrics | Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine Position summary: The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Pediatric Hospital Medicine is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide specialty care within the acute care inpatient units at Children's Wisconsin. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching. Position Highlights: Collaborate with MCW pediatric hospital medicine physicians and interdisciplinary health care teams in the diagnosis and treatment of children under the care of the hospital medicine service. Order and interpret diagnostic tests, procedures, laboratory studies and professional consultations. Appropriately communicate findings with the medical team as well as with patients and families. Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the hospital medicine attending, monitor the effectiveness of the plan of care throughout the patient's hospitalization; coordinate the care and discharge of the patient. Provides 24/7 in-house coverage of hospitalized general pediatric patients on the acute care floors at Children's Wisconsin. Document within the Electronic Medical Record accurate and timely admission, discharge, and progress notes, as well as writing orders and discharge instructions. Provide education and counseling to patients and families on disease and treatment plans. Provide instruction (formal and/or informal) for nurses, nursing students, medical students, residents, fellows and other health care professional trainees). Attend required training, educational sessions and hospital medicine program specific meetings. Participate in section quality improvement and/or research activities. Participate to the extent that you are able in the administration and/or service functions of the Department, Section, or on Department or MCW Committees. You will report to an APP manager, the chief of pediatric hospital medicine, and the department administrator. Schedule: The position is for a 1.0 FTE. Schedule includes day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts. Day shifts are 11-hour shifts from 07:00-18:00. Night shifts are 14-hour shifts from 17:30-07:30. Hours per week vary: approximately 3-4 consecutive daytime clinical shifts per week for full-time providers, with variable consecutiveness for nighttime shifts. Schedule and hours may be modified in the future to accommodate our expanding program. Non-clinical hours will be dedicated to academic productivity and to administrative/service contributions. Part-time options will be considered.
