The post has been created following both the expansion of the department and the replacement of a recently vacated consultant position. While applicants with a range of subspecialty interests will be considered, we are particularly interested in individuals with experience or a strong interest in: Clinical Nutrition Transnasal Endoscopy Video Capsule Endoscopy Related diagnostic and therapeutic gastroenterology services This is an excellent opportunity to shape specialist services within a collaborative department while delivering high-quality patient care across both inpatient and outpatient settings. Main Duties As a Consultant Gastroenterologist, you will play an integral role within the multidisciplinary team, providing expert clinical care and contributing to the ongoing development of the service. Your responsibilities will include: Delivering consultant-led care for gastroenterology inpatients in collaboration with consultant colleagues. Running gastroenterology outpatient clinics. Performing both diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. Participating in the consultant on-call rota as agreed with the Clinical Director for Gastroenterology. Supporting the strategic development and continuous improvement of gastroenterology services alongside consultant colleagues and the management team. Contributing to clinical governance, quality improvement and service evaluation. Providing supervision, mentorship and educational support for junior medical staff as appropriate. Participating in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. Attending and contributing to departmental, divisional and multidisciplinary meetings. Person Specification Essential Qualifications Applicants must possess: Basic medical qualification. MRCP (UK), MRCP Gastroenterology or equivalent postgraduate qualification. Full GMC registration with a licence to practise, together with inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Gastroenterology, or eligibility for specialist registration within six months of the interview date. Applicants who trained in the UK should hold, or be within six months of obtaining, a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Gastroenterology by the interview date. Applicants who trained overseas must demonstrate GMC-confirmed equivalence to the UK CCT by the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC). Desirable Qualifications Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent). Knowledge and Experience Essential Broad clinical experience across gastroenterology and hepatology. Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Good understanding of NHS structures, clinical governance and resource management. JAG accreditation in both diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. Demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion within clinical practice. Desirable Wider experience gained both within and outside the specialty. Additional subspecialty expertise that complements the existing department, particularly: Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) Nutrition Video Capsule Endoscopy Transnasal Endoscopy Teaching and Education Essential Evidence of commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.
