Requirements

  • Analytical Problem Solver: You have 2+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on writing clean, maintainable code. You enjoy debugging complex issues and using those learnings to make systemic improvements.
  • Infrastructure Curiosity: You have hands-on or learning experience with some of Kubernetes, Terraform, and the AWS ecosystem (EC2, RDS, networking), and you want to deepen it.
  • Technical Generalist: You are comfortable working across the stack. Whether it is building a self-service interface in React and TypeScript or developing a backend service in Python/Django, you are ready to dive in.
  • Internal Product Mindset: You treat the platform as a product whose customers are other engineers, and you care about making environments easy for other teams to adopt.
  • Quality and Testing Mindset: You understand that high-fidelity environments are what make testing trustworthy, and you see giving engineers a reliable place to

Additional Information

At Klaviyo, we value the unique backgrounds, experiences and perspectives each Klaviyo (we call ourselves Klaviyos) brings to our workplace each and every day. We believe everyone deserves a fair shot at success and appreciate the experiences each person brings beyond the traditional job requirements. Visit klaviyo.com/careers to see how we empower creators to own their own destiny. Why You Should Join the Environments Team Engineering confidence is our primary product. As a 300+ engineer organization, our biggest constraint isn't writing code, it's verifying it. The Environments team takes on that verification bottleneck by building safe, production-like ephemeral environments that any engineer can spin up on demand. We give engineers a high-fidelity place to test their changes against real-world conditions before they ever reach production, so the company can move fast without breaking things. As a Software Engineer II on the team, you will help build the tools and systems that make these short-lived, fully provisioned environments fast, reliable, and easy to adopt. Your work directly shortens the path from "code written" to "verified and shipped" for every engineer at the company. What You'll Do: Key Responsibilities As a core member of the team, you will own the execution of meaningful projects and contribute to the evolution of our environment platform: Build Production-Like Environments: Develop and maintain the tooling that provisions safe, prod-parity ephemeral environments on demand, writing clean, well-tested code with guidance and code review from senior engineers. Reduce the Verification Bottleneck: Contribute features that make environments faster to spin up and easier to trust, so engineers can verify changes in a safe, isolated environment instead of waiting on slow, manual setup. Enable Self-Service Onboarding: Build on our existing self-service tooling so product teams can onboard their own services into ephemeral environments with even less manual configuration, eliminating "it works on my machine" friction. Solve Data and Isolation Challenges: Build systems for production-like data seeding, sanitization, and service isolation so that each environment is high-fidelity, secure, and independent. Support Multi-Service and Reproducible Setups: Help our platform handle complex, multi-service architectures and work toward "reproducible anywhere" environments that behave consistently across cloud and local development. AI-Driven Innovation: Help explore and implement AI-powered tooling that accelerates environment provisioning and setup, shortening the time it takes engineers to get a ready-to-use environment. Operational Excellence: Help maintain the health of our environment platform, including automated cleanup (reaping), cost-tracking, and observability for transient infrastructure. Partner Across Teams: Work closely with product and platform teams as they onboard their services, gathering feedback, supporting adoption, and coordinating dependencies so environments work well for everyone who relies on them. What Makes This Role Exciting Direct Impact on Velocity: Your work removes the single biggest drag on a large engineering org: the time it takes to confidently verify a change. When engineers ship faster and safer, it is because of the systems you help build. Full-Stack Visibility: Because environments span our entire ecosystem, you will gain a deep understanding of how everything fits together, from frontend UI to backend services. Autonomy and Growth: While we provide the vision, you provide the execution. You will have the space to own your work end-to-end, propose technical improvements, and see them adopted across the org. High-Leverage Work: You are not building one feature for one customer. You are building the platform that hundreds of your fellow engineers rely on every single day.
