About the role
Purpose: The CMM Engineer is responsible for developing, validating, and maintaining Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programs to support dimensional inspection, First Article Inspection (FAI), and ongoing production verification. This role ensures accurate measurement results, compliance to engineering drawings and GD&T requirements, and supports regulatory and customer quality standards through robust inspection planning, ballooning, and documentation. Key Area of Responsibilities: Review customer (Internal & External) supplied data and drawings to ensure that supplied information aligns with project requirements and standards. Develop, debug and optimize CMM programs using software such as Camio CAD, Calypso or equivalent. Set up and calibrate CMM equipment for inspection tasks. Perform dimensional inspections on parts and assemblies using CMM. Validate measurement results and compliance with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards. Perform ballooning of engineering drawings (including 2D, 3D models, and specifications) to fully identify and number all measurable characteristics required for FAI. Translate ballooned characteristics into structured inspection plans and CMM programs. Ensure all drawing requirements-including GD&T, notes, and special characteristics-are correctly interpreted and measured. Support FAI packages (AS9102 or customer‑specific formats) by aligning CMM results with ballooned characteristics and inspection reports. Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Design Engineering, and Quality teams to clarify ambiguous or complex drawing requirements during the FAI phase. Generate detailed CMM inspection reports and FAI measurement outputs aligned to balloon numbers and part characteristics. Adhere to ISO and customer-specific quality standards. Support continuous improvement initiatives relating to inspection accuracy, cycle time, and program optimization. Requirement Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering, Precision Engineering, or related field. Proven experience as a CMM Engineer in a contract manufacturing or precision engineering environment. Strong hands-on experience with CMM programming (Camio CAD, Calypso, or equivalent). Solid understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5). Experience with AS9102 FAI preparation. Familiarity with ISO 9001 / AS9100 quality systems. Strong drawing interpretation and measurement planning skills. Excellent problem-solving skills and high attention to detail. Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
