ROLE SUMMARY The Financial Accountant is responsible for the supervision of the accounting function and providing full financial support within the Hospital. The incumbent may at short notice be seconded to any site within the Region to fill a vacancy as either the Hospital Accountant or Finance Manager until a suitable candidate can be placed or to act as an added resource for something requiring immediate attention. KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE Financial Accounting and Management - Prepare the Hospital financial and management statements (when seconded to do so) according to group guidance on International Financial Reporting Standards by consistently applying Netcare's accounting, supported by reasonable estimates. - Compilation and submission of departmental cost centre reports and liaising with line managers on budget and expenditure monitoring when seconded to hospitals. - Maintenance of general ledger accounts and preparation of accurate balance sheet reconciliations when seconded to hospitals. - Analytical reviews of costs and expenditure to aid management in decision making when seconded to hospitals. - Ensure that the banking and procurement systems maintain a high level of integrity and information when seconded to hospitals - Supervision and management of the Procurement & Purchasing Department when seconded to a hospital. - Maintain fixed assets register, perform physical asset verifications and compile reconciliations when seconded to site. - Supervision of staff in Finance Department when seconded. - Supervision of documentation storage and retention when seconded. - Coordinate quarterly stock counts, perform spot checks, and adjust accordingly in GL when seconded to site. - Ensure complete familiarisation of Netcare's financial policies, as revised from time to time. - Managing of risk and reviewing of internal controls as well as compilation of risk reviews both at a hospital level when seconded and from a regional consolidation point of view. - Produce accurate and timeous financial and management analysis and reporting. - Analyse and report on balance sheet reconciliations. - Prepare management accounts, budgets, and forecasts. - Analyse and report on budget variances. - Maintenance of the integrity, accuracy and completeness of respective accounting records and information systems. - Benchmarking Hospitals within the region to assist with identifying potential operational efficiencies and cost saving opportunities. - Display functional knowledge and understanding to support with the submission of and training of Hospital Accountants in relations to statutory submissions such as VAT201 and IT14SD. - Compile consolidate Capex wish lists and ensure fund allocation once approved. - Ensure Capex commitments are driven consistently through the year to prevent carryovers at year end. - Collation of financial information required and the completion of financial feasibilities. - Review Reception compliance reports and facilitate training where appropriate. - Provide a commercial support function to the business. - Evaluate operational and financial reports to improve accuracy and relevancy. - Evaluate financial processes and implement corrective action to ensure alignment and standardisation within the division. - Facilitate implementation and act as change agent for the implementation of business process improvement projects for optimisation and automation. - Engage with the business and audit to evaluate all anomalies, assisting the division to implement corrective action. - Drives strategic projects on an ad hoc basis. EDUCATION Essential - A relevant 3-year B Com degree or diploma with Financial Accounting 3 at NQF level 7. Preferred - A higher degree in accounting or equivalent NQF 8 qualifications. WORK EXPERIENCE Essential - Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Financial Department, at least 3 years at a supervisory capacity - Proven management/interpersonal skills. - Initiative and independent decision making. KNOWLEDGE Essential - Intermediate computer literacy essential: SAP, MS-Office - Proven financial accounting experience. PHYSICAL REQUIRE
