Description of role: TWI are seeking to appoint an experienced General Manager to lead a newly established Inspection Qualification Services business unit based in TWI Middlesbrough, UK. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a small, specialised team delivering independent and impartial qualification of non-destructive testing (NDT) procedures, personnel and equipment in critical safety sectors, including nuclear and defence. All activities will be delivered in accordance with ISO 17020 requirements. This is a leadership role focused on establishing and growing the business unit, ensuring technical credibility, maintaining compliance and developing a strong pipeline of work. The role requires a combination of management capability, NDT technical knowledge and experience operating within highly regulated industries. To be successful, you will be able to: Provide leadership and direction to a small, specialist technical team delivering inspection qualification activities. Ensure all work is conducted impartially and independently, in line with ISO 17020 requirements. Balance technical understanding with effective business and operational management. Communicate effectively with customers, regulators and internal stakeholders. Develop and grow the business through engagement with industry and identification of new opportunities. Operate effectively in a fast paced environment with competing priorities Key Accountabilities: Lead and manage the inspection qualification services business unit, ensuring delivery of safe, high-quality and compliant services. Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with ISO 17020, maintaining independence, impartiality, and technical integrity. Manage and develop technical staff in line with TWI values and organisational requirements. Work with TWI QHSE to establish, implement and maintain the management system and support accreditation activities. Maintain ISO 17020 accreditation, including engagement with auditors and timely resolution of non-conformances. Review incoming work to ensure capability and capacity to meet customer requirements. Monitor delivery to ensure work is conducted safely, effectively and to the required quality standards. Ensure facilities, equipment and working environments are suitable for qualification activities. Proactively develop a pipeline of new business, engaging with potential customers, colleagues in other business units and the business development function. Remain flexible to the needs of the business, supporting the team to deliver work in times of high demand.
