About the role
Scotch is building the next-generation operating system for beverage alcohol retailers - combining POS, payments, back office, and e-commerce into a platform purpose-built for liquor stores. We're modernizing one of the oldest industries in the world: the $1.6T beverage alcohol market. Our platform helps retailers run more efficiently through streamlined payments, inventory management, reporting, and day-to-day operations. Our founders came from Skupos (acquired 2023) and Drizly (acquired by Uber). We've raised $28M from VMG Partners, First Round, Lerer Hippeau, Watchfire, and Toba Capital, with angels including the founder of Drizly and early Toast executives. In 2026, we closed a $20M Series A. Forbes has recognized Scotch as a leader in liquor retail tech. Position Overview We're looking for a UX/UI Designer who can own design end-to-end-from early research and problem framing through to shipped, polished experiences. You'll be the thought partner to our product managers: someone who pushes back on over-specified solutions, proactively surfaces problems we didn't think to ask about, and brings both user insight and design craft to every decision. You'll work closely with PMs and engineers across a fast-moving R&D team. If you're energized by ambiguity, motivated by real user impact, and excited about AI's role in shaping both the products you design and your own workflow-this is a great fit.
Responsibilities
- Lead discovery and research-user interviews, contextual inquiry, usability testing-and translate what you learn into clear design decisions that inform product strategy.
- Define and own the design process from problem framing to shipped features: You'll need to know when to apply more rigor vs when to rely on great product intuition to move faster user.
- Partner closely with PMs to define requirements and challenge assumptions. Be the voice that asks "Did we solve the right problem?" before we ask "Did we build it right?"
- Collaborate with engineers to bring designs to life faithfully. Engage with our R&D culture-stay curious about frontend capabilities and be a driver of the evolving AI-assisted design/build loop.
- Own and evolve our design system: establish patterns, maintain consistency, and raise the quality bar across the product.
- Participate in the full product lifecycle, including contributing to roadmap conversations and post-launch iteration.
- Bring a point of view-not just execution. We want a designer who challenges, improves, and helps shape where the product goes next.
- Qualifications & Skills
- 4+ years of product/UX design experience in a startup or fast-moving environment.
- Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end work-research, problem framing, and shipped product.
- Strong visual and interaction design skills. You sweat the details that matter for users, not just aesthetics-and you know when to push and when to ship.
- You are an expert researcher. You design discovery plans, synthesize findings fast, and turn ambiguous problems into clear design direction.
- You've partnered closely with PMs and pushed back constructively. You help define the problem, not just solve it.
- You think in systems, not screens. You care about patterns, consistency, and how designs scale over time.
- Comfortable working alongside engineers in a fast-moving R&D environment-you understand implementation constraints and are comfortable building the plane while flying.
- Proficient with Figma, Claude and able to prototype quickly to test assumptions and communicate behavior.
Requirements
- Experience designing complex B2B or operational workflows (retail, logistics, or similar).
- Familiarity with design systems-building them, maintaining them, and getting others to use them.
- You actively use AI tools in your own workflow and are excited to design AI-assisted experiences that feel human and intentional.
- Experience as a sole or lead designer.
- Some exposure to frontend development or a strong mental model of how the design-to-build handoff works.
- Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $150,000-$160,000. Individual offers are based on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.
- Competitive equity package
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Unlimited flexible PTO
- Why Scotch?
- A real product with real users-your design decisions affect store managers navigating live operational complexity every day.
- True design ownership: you'll shape the product, not just execute on specs.
- A tight-knit engineering and product team that takes design seriously
