Children's Solo residential - Waking Night Support Worker

Responsibilities

• Safeguarding and Welfare
• Safeguard and promote the welfare of the child or young person at all times.
• Maintain continuous awareness of the young person's safety and well-being throughout the night.
• Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns, disclosures, incidents, or emergencies in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Follow risk assessments, behaviour support plans, and care plans to ensure the young person's needs are met safely.
• Night-Time Support
• Conduct regular welfare checks in line with the child's placement plan and risk assessment.
• Provide reassurance and emotional support to the young person if they wake during the night or require assistance.
• Support the young person to maintain healthy sleep routines and minimise disruptions.
• Respond calmly and effectively to any incidents, behaviours of concern, illness, or emergencies occurring during the shift.
• Administer medication where trained and authorised to do so, ensuring accurate records are maintained.
• Monitoring and Recording
• Maintain accurate, detailed, and professional records of the night's events, observations, incidents, and interventions.
• Complete handover reports for day staff, ensuring important information is communicated effectively.
• Record health and safety checks, room checks, medication administration, and other required documentation.
• Report any concerns regarding the young person's welfare, behaviour, health, or environment to management promptly.
• Household Responsibilities
• Ensure the home remains clean, safe, secure, and welcoming throughout the night.
• Complete designated household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, stock checks, and preparation for the following day.
• Conduct security checks of the property, ensuring doors, windows, alarms, and other safety measures are functioning correctly.
• Maintain compliance with health and safety standards and company procedures.
• Professional Practice
• Work in accordance with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Quality Standards.
• Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of practice.
• Participate in supervision, team meetings, training, and continuous professional development.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals where required.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional boundaries at all times.
• Person Specification
• Essential Criteria
• Experience working with children and young people in a residential care, education, social care, or support setting.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Ability to remain alert, observant, and responsive throughout waking night shifts.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally.
• Understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and bank holidays on a rota basis.
• Desirable Criteria
• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards).
• Experience working in a children's residential home.
• Knowledge of therapeutic approaches.
• Experience supporting children with Learning disabilities, sensory impairments, behaviour that challenges.
• Full UK Driving Licence (desirable)
• Medication administration training.
• Understanding of Ofsted regulations and children's residential care standards.

The Waking Night Support Worker is responsible for ensuring the young person's safety, welfare, and well-being throughout the night, responding to any needs or incidents, and maintaining the smooth operation of the home. The role requires vigilance, professionalism to support children and young people who may have experienced adverse childhood experiences, emotional difficulties, or challenging behaviours.
