Surgical Care Practitioner (Bank) The Alexandra Hospital Bank Shifts Salary: Up to £50.00 per hour (depending on level of experience, training and qualification) The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle Is part of Circle Health Group , Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country. We have an opportunity for a Surgical Care Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatre department. This is a bank role working on an "as and when required" basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence. Duties of this role include: Act as the senior scrub for a range of orthopaedic procedures, including joint replacements, arthroscopies, trauma, and spinal surgeries. Prepare and handle specialist instrumentation and equipment (e.g., power tools, implants, navigation systems) in line with manufacturers' guidance and surgical protocols. Take a senior role in preparing theatres, coordinating surgical lists, and ensuring all equipment, staff, and resources are in place. Champion the use of WHO Surgical Safety Checklists, infection prevention practices, and adherence to clinical governance requirements. Mentor newly qualified practitioners, students, and team members, supporting skill development in orthopaedic scrub techniques and patient care. Applicants should meet the following criteria: Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC). Significant experience in the perioperative setting with specialist knowledge in orthopaedic surgery. Proven ability to scrub for a wide range of orthopaedic procedures, including complex cases. Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. Strong understanding of clinical governance, infection control, and safety practices in theatre.
