Pay Range:$25.00 - $25.47 Under close supervision, performs phlebotomy on adults & children, performs finger-sticks on adults & children, performs heel-sticks on neonates, provides clerical and technical support to laboratory staff through reception, basic specimen processing, and laboratory organization. Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job Assesses patient to determine proper procedure then draws blood. Demonstrates proficiency in newborn/infant heel-sticks; child and adult finger-sticks; newborn, infant, child, and adult venipuncture. Provides clerical and technical support to the laboratory of the SEARHC/Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital. Answers incoming phone calls and routes callers to appropriate department or personnel. Provides customer services to physicians, nurses, and others contacting the laboratory. Answers questions about laboratory processes, services available and basic technical issues. Assists in specimen processing. Evaluates specimens for integrity, verifies correct labeling and paperwork, and resolves discrepancies with specimen documentation as they occur. Assists with processing incoming specimens. Distributes specimens to assigned areas. Assists in laboratory organization, records maintenance, reception, scheduling, and general duties to facilitate office administration. Updates, distributes and archives productivity reports. Sends, receives and distributes lab results. Maintains, orders and stocks office and technical supplies. Other Functions Assists with department projects. Maintains electronic copies of department records and assures completeness of files. Other duties as assigned. Additional Details: Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required A high school diploma or GED - required Phlebotomy Certification - preferred Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years Experience Required Phlebotomy experience - preferred Knowledge of Basic clinical processes and medical terminology. Customer service concepts and practices. Privacy laws and regulations. Multi-line telephone systems operations. Skills in Operating office equipment. Oral and written communications. Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees. Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications. Ability to Positively identify patients to be drawn 100% of the time. Draw blood successfully with one stick on 90% of patients. Recognize reasons to reject a specimen for laboratory processing. Safety and Risk Management Responsibilities: Employees are responsible for complying with safe work rules; reporting all accidents and injuries immediately; cooperating in all accident and injury investigations; reporting defective equipment and unsafe conditions.
