Reporting to the Proxy Voting Lead, you will be part of Manulife Investment Management's 26-member Sustainability team, contributing to ESG integration across public markets asset classes and supporting proxy voting activities. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in both research and strategic implementation within a dynamic, global sustainability team. Position Responsibilities: ESG Integration for Public Markets Asset Classes (50%): Support corporate engagement efforts by conducting preliminary research, formulating targeted questions, and participating in discussions with Sustainability Team Analysts. Conduct in-depth research and co-author a paper on emerging sustainability technology (e.g., green hydrogen, circular economy) to support team learning and sustainability strategy development. Perform sustainability analysis on corporate issuers to help investment teams assess material risks and opportunities. Assist in quarterly sustainability portfolio reviews by analyzing data, preparing briefing materials, and participating in team discussions. Proxy Voting Support (50%): Contribute to the research and refinement of proxy voting policy and guidelines, ensuring they align with Manulife IM's fiduciary responsibilities to clients, including consideration of sustainability in voting decisions and prevailing market best practices . Assist in post-season evaluations to analyze voting outcomes and derive insights that inform future proxy voting strategies. Support the development and enhancement of proxy process documentation and training materials. Required Qualifications: Enrollment in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program in Sustainability, Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Data Analytics, or related field. A genuine interest in sustainability. Familiarity with sustainable investing principles, including ESG integration and proxy voting practices. Ability to synthesize and analyze complex information from diverse sources. Experience with SharePoint, MS Word, Excel, and Power Point. Results-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
