Course Description: The Clinical Instructor is assigned to a group of 7 students on a critical care unit for the duration of 13 weeks, one to two shifts per week. Clinical days will take place in person, on Mondays and Tuesdays, scheduled either during day or evening shifts. Occasional weekend shifts may be required to accommodate make-up sessions if necessary. Directly supervises a group of 7 students in fulfilling the course objectives related to critical care practicum, including patient selection, demonstration of clinical skills and assessments when required. Selects and assigns patients to students based on their learning needs (on an assigned critical care unit). Assesses student learning and performance with the tools provided in the course. Assists student in improving their clinical reasoning, practical and theoretical nursing skills. Communicates with the course coordinator about any concerns related to student learning. Works with clinical unit leadership to promote the best student learning experience possible. Accesses myCourses regularly and communicates with students by email as necessary. Organizes and leads group clinical conferences once a week. Complete training modules for clinical educators at the ISoN before student mid-term assessments. Formative and/or summative evaluation of student written work as required. Attends course coordinators orientation session and the CPO preparatory session in preparation for the clinical course. The candidate completes all required documentation, confirming completion of onboarding, ISoN modules, unit orientation, and other required tasks. Communicates with course coordinators, clinical instructors and students using identified documentation tools provided.
