Job Title: Microbiology Biomedical Scientist Banding : Band 6 Locat io n: Guildford , Surrey Start date: ASAP Duration: Ongoing Rate : £ 25 - £ 3 5 per month Working hours: Full-time An excellent opportunity has become available for a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist specialising in Microbiology to join a well-established laboratory team in Guildford. This role is ideal for a skilled and motivated professional with experience in general bacteriology, looking to contribute to high-quality diagnostic services in a busy NHS setting. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting infection diagnosis and antimicrobial stewardship through accurate and timely laboratory analysis. What will your responsibilities be : The postholder will be responsible for performing a range of microbiological investigations, including plate reading, microscopy, and interpretation of results in line with EUCAST antibiotic guidelines. Duties include processing clinical specimens, maintaining quality control procedures, and ensuring compliance with laboratory standards. Collaboration with clinical teams is essential to support effective patient management and infection control. The role also involves contributing to the continuous improvement of laboratory services and training junior staff when required. Qualifications and Experiences: HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or equivalent Proven experience in microbiology, particularly general bacteriology Proficiency in EUCAST antibiotic susceptibility testing Skilled in plate reading and microscopy techniques Familiarity with laboratory information systems and quality standards Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment How to apply?
