This position is located at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) located in Tucson, AZ. This position is part of Engineering Service Line. The Construction & Maintenance Supervisor position works under the direct supervision of the Healthcare Engineer To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/12/2026. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. In addition to the minimum qualifications described below, you must meet the following selective placement factor: Must have a valid state driver's license. The incumbent must have a current, valid driver's license and EPA Universal Certification (Obtained within 120 days). Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The physical demands on the job are strenuous in respect that it is necessary to climb vertical ladders, work off pneumatic lifts, inside cramped spaces. The incumbent may be required to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in awkward positions for prolonged periods. The incumbent handles carry equipment, materials and tools weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. Incumbent will be required to stoop, crawl, and climb over duct work and piping while working on equipment. Occasionally lifts and carry objects over ninety (90) pounds, with the assistance of others or lifting devices. The work can sometimes require strenuous physical exertion, climbing ladders and scaffolds, and in general have use of his/her limbs. He/she must visit all those areas where subordinates will be working for the purpose of instruction an and machinery. d/or inspection. The incumbent may routinely work around and be required to operate mobile heavy equipment. Incumbent works indoors/outdoors, uncontrolled environments, in inclement weather conditions and in confined or uncomfortable spaces. Many work sites are hot, dirty, dusty, greasy, poorly lit, cramped and with unpleasant odors. Occasionally subject to possible dangerous working conditions including exposure to hazards normally encountered, in the hospital trades and various types of infections. Work involves frequent walking, standing and occasional desk work. Position requires stooping, bending, working on ladders, or working in cramped conditions under extremely hot temperatures associated with steam generation, and/or awkward positions. Incumbent must be able to work in continuously noisy environment. He/she is subject to hazardous conditions which may include the risk of electrical shock, burns, cuts, bruises, broken bones, and respiratory ailments.
