About the Role - Cell Engineer Peak Energy is seeking a Cell Engineer to play a key role in evaluating relevant sodium-ion technologies . Your efforts will ensure cross-functional alignment, timely delivery of projects, and the successful advancement of our s odium- i on battery systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the future of renewable energy storage and grid resilience. What You'll Do (Responsibilities) Lead next-generation cell design and quantitatively assess tradeoffs between cell electrochemical performance, cost, and cell energy density to optimize product impact. Cost and performance modeling of advanced cell designs, including material selection and electrode design. Analyze cell testing data to troubleshoot and understand performance issues and identify key areas of improvement. Cell failure-mode analysis and method development toward degradation mechanism resolution. Work with international and domestic battery material suppliers to guide technology roadmaps. Benchmark next-generation materials and cell designs through electrochemical and physical testing of coin and pouch cells. Contribute to the optimization of electrode formulations, coatings, and material selection to enhance cell energy density and performance. Identify and resolve process challenges related to scale up of cell designs (e.g., cell assembly, electrolyte filling, formation processes). Collaborate cross-functionally, partnering with the supplier industrialization engineering teams, and energy storage system teams and cell manufacturing partners to facilitate the scaling of cell designs from the lab to pilot production and mass manufacturing. What You'll Bring (Qualifications) Bachelor's , Master's or Ph.D. in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or a related field . 3+ years of relevant industry experience in cell, battery, or electrochemical testing & development with demonstrated ownership of R&D or cell design. Strong knowledge of electrochemistry and battery fundamentals, and able to communicate these skills within the context of an applied cell development framework. Deep hands-on expertise in electrochemical characterization methods (DCIR/HPPC, EIS, cycle life, calendar life, dQ/dV) and the instrumentation behind them. Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and make informed decisions. Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and develop a deep technical understanding of a broad range of topics.
