Position Description The McGill University Department of Psychiatry in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Douglas Mental Health Institute are currently inviting applications for a full-time Clinician Scientist position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) in the field of psychosis and understanding treatment resistance in severe and persistent mental illness. This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure. Applicants with expertise in all relevant areas of psychosis will be considered, and those focusing on severe and persistent mental illness resistant to treatment and comorbid with substance-use disorders are especially encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will have a strong research record or show evidence of significant potential to become a productive independent clinician scientist, competitive for grants and equivalent sources of funding. The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute and will be a member of the Douglas Research Centre. The Douglas Mental Health Institute is part of the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux de l'Ouest-de-l'Île-de-Montréal (CIUSSS-ODIM) whose mission is to offer cutting-edge care and advance and share knowledge in mental health. Job Duties In addition to an active research program, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the clinical mission of the Douglas Mental Health Institute, provide excellent teaching and supervision to residents and medical students, participate in hospital administrative activities, and make innovative contributions to the academic mission of the Department. As a Clinician Scientist, the successful candidate will be expected to devote 50% of their time to research and apply for external support from the appropriate funding agencies (i.e., CIHR, FRQ-S). Startup funding including a research stipend may be available to a suitable candidate allowing for protected research time. The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill's academic mission (e.g., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is also expected. Qualifications and Education Requirements Candidates must: Have completed advanced Psychiatry training (fellowship/graduate studies); Hold an MD and hold, or be eligible for, licensure as a psychiatrist in the province of Quebec; Show evidence of strong research productivity and the current or potential ability to attract competitive funding; Demonstrated expertise in the field of psychosis; Possess an advanced capacity to engage in all aspects of a university-affiliated psychiatry department (i.e., clinical, education and/or research); Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals. Assets: Clinician-scientists with MD/PhD (or equivalent research-intensive training) are strongly encouraged to apply; Strong clinical/academic background; Experience in severe and persistent mental illness.
