Using proprietary technologies including focused acoustic energy, Covaris' tools achieve highly accurate and reproducible results with the goal of empowering customers to make new discoveries, develop new assays and improve bioanalytical results. Some of the non-contact applications include faster automated DNA fragmentation, cell lysis, accelerated binding partner mixing, bead resuspension, and compound formulation. Job Summary: Covaris/Perkin Elmer is seeking an experienced Field Applications Scientist (FAS) preferably in Woburn, MA. This position resides within the Covaris Solutions team and will report to Manager, Field Applications-North America. This individual will serve as scientific support liaison in field for customers and internal Sales team and will be instrumental in delivering Customer Trainings & Demos for our Sample Preparation, Genomics, Proteomics and Epigenomics workflow solutions. In this role, you will provide technical consultations including pre-sales technical interactions, customer training, and troubleshooting support, in conjunction with the in-house Solutions and Sales team. This position is ideal for a self-motivated individual with broad scientific knowledge and the drive to create top-quality support processes and culture. Essential Responsibilities: The employee may be required to perform all, or a combination of the following essential responsibilities as determined by business necessity. Provide post-sales on-site customer training through classroom instruction, hands-on laboratory sessions, technical lectures, and consultation on sample preparation and analysis recommendations. Deliver remote training sessions for customers and distributors as required. Organize, plan, and execute on-site product demonstrations to support commercial objectives. Independently manage demonstration projects and ensure all technical parameters are optimized for successful demo performance. Partner with Sales Territory Managers to serve as the scientific subject-matter expert supporting both new and existing customers. Lead pre-sales technical presentations, product positioning discussions, and customer education programs (e.g., Lunch & Learn sessions) to promote adoption of Covaris solutions. Represent the organization at trade shows, scientific conferences, and technical symposia by presenting posters, delivering talks, and conducting webinars and live demonstrations. Serve as the primary technical contact for customer inquiries through Salesforce. Troubleshoot issues related to assay design, experimental workflows, software, instrumentation, and user technique, escalating to appropriate internal teams as needed to maximize customer uptime and minimize disruption. Lead technical writing initiatives by defining, organizing, and authoring training materials, protocols, and application notes for internal teams, sales organizations, and external customers. Collaborate cross-functionally with internal Solutions team, Product Management, Marketing, Research & Development, and other internal teams to communicate customer feedback, support product positioning, and contribute to continuous product improvement. Literacy and compliance in working within a regulated ISO-13485 environment Non-Essential Responsibilities: In addition to the essential responsibilities listed above, the employee may be required to perform other non-essential functions. Requirements/Qualifications: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related life sciences discipline preferred. Exceptional candidates with a M.Sc. or B. Sc. degrees and strong relevant laboratory experience, 2-3+ years of industry experience, will also be considered. Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on laboratory experience in academic or industry research environments working with molecular biology workflows.
