As Manager, Workforce Strategy and Policy, you will lead the development responsive and cohesive workforce strategy and policy that seeks to manage health workforce challenges to ensure New Zealand has the workforce to meet the needs of the health system. The role will also drive improvement in education, training, immigration, employment and planning settings for the health workforce. Working at the centre of government and the health system, you'll influence long‑term outcomes, lead high‑impact programmes of work, and ensure equity and Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations are embedded in everything you deliver. Lead the development workforce strategy and policy , action plans and monitoring frameworks that support Government and Ministry health workforce priorities. Drive complex programmes of work , ensuring high‑quality advice, effective planning, and successful delivery across the Directorate and Ministry. Provide people and project leadership , supporting the pastoral care, development, capability and capacity of your team to deliver on strategic priorities. Build strong, collaborative relationships across the Ministry, wider health sector, government agencies and external stakeholders, representing the Directorate in key forums. Ensure system‑wide alignment and accountability , coordinating Ministerial briefings, reports and responses while embedding equity and Treaty obligations in all work. Ko ngā pūkenga ōu - What you'll bring A tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or equivalent senior‑level experience. Significant leadership experience in large, complex organisations, achieving results through others. Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide sound advice and make decisions under pressure Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse stakeholders Excellent political acumen and understanding of the machinery of government and public sector processes. Extensive experience briefing Ministers on complex and sensitive issues, both orally and in writing.
