What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a highly motivated Product Design Engineer (PDE) with a passion for product design and development. On any given day, you may be called on to: Create, modify, and evaluate component and system definition by implementing and integrating design solutions. Design three-dimensional models and detailed drawings of complex objects and systems and/or lead teams in the design. Gather, determine, and integrate product requirements based on client needs. Utilize three-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) software to develop and propose mechanical designs and perform mass property calculations and dimensional tolerance and interference analyses. Gather, analyze, and present data and results to improve designs. Foster an environment of teamwork and shared success throughout Design Engineering by responding swiftly to emerging technical issues Solve technical problems in the absence of clear direction Establish new procedures and improve existing processes to enhance efficiency across all of Design Engineering Contribute to the advancement of Design Engineering initiatives to implement innovative practices and technologies. Develop comprehensive design documentation, including specifications and GD&T, to facilitate effective manufacturing, inspection, and quality assurance processes. Due to the nature of work, successful candidate must be able to work onsite. Salary Range: $104,000 - $201,000 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential. Qualifications We Require: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Experience using CAD software for 3D solid modeling and mechanical drawing generation. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance. Qualifications We Desire: Experience using PTC-Creo software for mechanical engineering and design. Demonstrated ability in applying mechanical engineering design principles to formulate design concepts and meet product requirements. Demonstrated ability in applying principles of tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Certification such as ASME GDTP technologist level. Experience creating designs that employ Model Based Definition Demonstrated ability to perform analysis and calculations (stress, thermal, material properties, Etc.) to ensure that requirements are met and optimize designs. Experience using a product data management system to manage CAD files. Application of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles. Demonstrated successful teamwork, excellent communication skills (oral and written), and consistent demonstration of good behaviors. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products. Knowledge and understanding of the NW engineering systems and the NNSA product realization process. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a diverse team environment. Active Security Clearance. Experience in a lead designer role. Proven ability to mentor and develop staff and develop effective working relationships with peers. Experience with 3D tolerance analysis using CETOL (or equivalent) software. About Our Team: Sandia's Design Engineering Group includes multiple mechanical design departments that provide design engineering services using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as PTC Creo. We partner with engineering teams across the lab to produce innovative design solutions based on high-quality CAD models and drawings. We ensure fit, form, and function using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), while ensuring manufacturability and maintainability of designs.
