Lecturer in Sustainable Operations Management (Teaching & Research)

About the role

Based at University of York campus (with some remote working options available) Department The School for Business and Society (SBS) at the University of York is appointing a Lecturer in Sustainable Operations Management (Teaching & Research) to our Operations, Strategy and Governance group. SBS is an interdisciplinary school, leading business and policy action on complex social and environmental challenges. We combine expertise across management, business, accounting, finance, social policy and social work to pioneer an interdisciplinary approach for the public good, empowering social change. This is an exciting opportunity to join an academic community leading sustainability research and teaching in the UK. Role You will develop and lead a programme of research and deliver outstanding teaching in sustainable operations management. With expertise in at least one of the following areas - climate resilience/green transitions, sustainable food systems, circular economy/waste reduction, sustainable supply chains, and eco-efficient manufacturing - you will contribute to the group's research strategy and output. You will design and deliver innovative learning experiences, set and mark assessments, supervise students, and contribute to curriculum development. You will develop competitive research proposals, pursue external funding, and publish in high-quality journals and other media. Other responsibilities include module and programme administration, postgraduate research supervision, and the collegial life of the department. Skills, Experience & Qualification needed A PhD in Operations or Supply Chain Management, a closely related discipline or equivalent experience). An academic teaching qualification or willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice. Specialist knowledge of operations and supply chain management with a sustainability focus. A track record of high-quality research, including publications in internationally recognised journals. Experience of teaching and learning in higher education, including course design, delivery, assessment, and supervision. Proven ability to develop research proposals and secure funding, with the ambition to build an independent and collaborative research programme. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present at international conferences and engage with academic and non-academic audiences. A collaborative and collegial approach, with commitment to interdisciplinary working, departmental administration, and the wider academic community.
