About the Position: This position is located within Brooke Army Medical Center, Vision Readiness, Optical Fabrication located at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The primary purpose is to provide technical ophthalmic production-oriented tasks and customer support for eligible beneficiaries in the Optical Fabrication Laboratories for the United States Medical Command (MEDCOM). Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) assisting customers with the end-to-end optical process such as ordering, dispensing, and fitting of appropriate eye wear, 2) utilizing automated optical databases to maintain and track order inventory, 3) assisting in optical maintenance to include re-fabrication, calibration, and cleaning, and 4) determining necessary safety eye protection for customers based on environmental and occupational hazards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
