Consultation & Fitting: Meeting clients, discussing style or design requirements, taking exact body measurements, and pinning garments during fitting sessions to gauge the ideal fit. [1, 2] Alterations & Repairs: Adjusting seams, taking in/letting out waists, hemming trousers/sleeves, and fixing tears, broken zippers, or loose buttons. [1, 2] Garment Construction: Drafting patterns, cutting fabrics based on measurements, sewing pieces together, and adding finishes or fasteners. [1] Quality Assurance: Inspecting finished items, trimming loose threads, removing chalk marks, and steaming or pressing the final product. [1, 2, 3, 4] Workspace Maintenance: Organizing fabrics, maintaining sewing equipment, and keeping the atelier or tailoring space clean Tailors take on a range of duties and responsibilities to ensure the creation of well-fitting and stylish garments. A tailor's duties and responsibilities may include: Sewing and measuring clothing Designing and creating clothes from scratch for a customer, such as suits, jackets, blazers, pants and more Fixing clothes that have been damaged or ripped Altering clothes to fit better, including making garments shorter, longer, tighter or looser Ironing and steaming clothes that are finished and ready to be picked up by customers
