About the role

As Steel Expert , you will work closely with our product and data teams to structure and systematize material specifications in a way that software systems and AI models can reliably interpret and process. This is a high-impact role where your domain expertise will directly shape how material data is represented, searched, and standardized across our products. The estimated time of the project is 3 months . During this time you will: Author, curate, and validate material data for flat-rolled carbon steel (coils, sheets, slits) Build a structured taxonomy including: form, grade, coating, mechanical and chemical properties, surface condition and delivery condition Extract, interpret, and standardize data from EN/DIN norms, and customer specs Define and document material equivalencies and grade conversion rules across EN, DIN, ASTM, AISI, JIS and other standards Identify missing or ambiguous data and propose methods for completion or validation Work closely with our data & product team to define data schemas, entity relationships, user interfaces and workflows required to create and maintain the materials knowledge base Provide internal training on steel norms, material properties, and classification principles 10+ years of commercial experience in flat-rolled steel (coils, sheets, slit coils) Commercial awareness of how material properties affect buying, selling, and processing decisions (required) Strong knowledge of carbon steel grades, especially across EN/DIN standards Experience interpreting standards such as EN 10111, EN 10025-2, EN 10130, EN 10346, etc. Understanding of international equivalents (ASTM, AISI, SAE, JIS, GB) Ability to read, interpret, and standardize mechanical and chemical properties from mill certificates and datasheets Comfort working with structured data in Excel, Google Sheets, etc. Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to complex technical data Excellent command of English; German is a strong advantage due to DIN/EN documentation NICE TO HAVE Experience with digital tools, ERP systems, or digital transformation initiatives in metals Exposure to material classification, taxonomy building, or technical data structuring Background from a steel mill or service center, understanding of flat-rolled product flows within trading, distribution, or OEM supply chains Ability to create real impact in a global industry at the core of economic development Ownership over a critical project with outcome-driven autonomy Fast-paced yet collaborative culture that values both expertise and teamwork Competitive compensation based on experience Hybrid work format (occasionally remote, predominantly onsite) A beautiful office in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin
