Position Summary: The Director of Investments plays a vital role in advancing the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis ("CF") Foundation, helping to steward and grow the financial resources that fund lifesaving research, drug development, and care for people living with cystic fibrosis. The Director of Investments supports the oversight and management of the CF Foundation's $5 billion investment portfolio. The Director leads the sourcing and underwriting of new investment opportunities, the monitoring of existing investments, and manages teams and projects to enhance the investment process and management of the total investment portfolio. This is a generalist role across asset classes providing the opportunity to have a material impact on the Foundation's growing active investment portfolio and mentorship from a small, collaborative, and experienced investment team. This role is based in Bethesda, MD, at the headquarters of the Foundation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Drive new sourcing channels through an established network to source insights and prospective opportunities across the globe and all asset classes (public and private equity, venture capital, credit, diversifying assets, and fixed income). Lead the investment due diligence, selection, and monitoring process for investment partners, including fund managers, co- investments, and direct investments. Lead the preparation and presentation of investment analyses and recommendations to internal team and Investment Committee of the Board. Drive enhancements to the investment process, including investment sourcing, underwriting, monitoring, performance evaluation, and risk management. Lead and develop Analysts and Associates, overseeing project staffing, investment execution, and professional development. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Minimum of 10 years of investment-related experience; allocator-side experience (endowment, foundation, pension, OCIO) preferred. Bachelor's degree required, master's degree or CFA designation preferred. Demonstrated success developing and leveraging an extensive professional network to source differentiated investment opportunities. Ability to establish, manage, and strengthen key relationships and prospective partnerships. Substantive experience conducting investment due diligence on investment funds, co-investments, and direct investments. Demonstrated expertise in one or more asset classes and the ability to evaluate investment opportunities across a diversified portfolio. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting investment recommendations to senior decision-makers and investment committees. Demonstrated ability to lead investment underwriting processes and synthesize large amounts of qualitative and quantitative information into actionable investment recommendations. Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and document new processes to ensure sustainable results. Ability to coach, mentor, and develop junior investment professionals to achieve department objectives. Ability to independently manage multiple investment opportunities and priorities. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to Managing Director, Investments. Directly manages Analysts and Associates. WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment; in-office expectations 4 days/week.
