About the role

Utility Mechanic I - $21.7229 - $26.8411 Hourly / $45,183.63 - $55,829.49 Annually Utility Mechanic II - $24.9837 - $30.9171 Hourly/ $51,966.10 - $64,307.57 Annually Utility Mechanic III- $26.4170 - $33.3379 Hourly/ $54,947.36 - $69,342.83 Annually Essential Functions Installs, maintains, modifies and repairs a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment in the City's water and wastewater collection, distribution, treatment and related facilities and systems, including, but not limited to, pumps, compressors, valves, motors, engines, controllers, conveyor systems, mechanical drives and related or similar systems and equipment. Performs scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and procedures on various mechanical and electrical components of the water and wastewater systems in addition to the maintenance of other equipment. Installs and maintains chemical feed systems, including chlorine, caustic soda, alum, methanol, deodorant, methane gas, polymer and/or aquashade systems. Inspects, records and utilizes charts, dial, gauges, meters and other monitors to determine pressure conditions, flow and feed rates and other operating conditions. Performs routine adjustments in response to monitoring results. Performs a variety of service activities relating to the water and wastewater distribution and collection systems, such as digging trenches for mains, excavating for services and hydrants, locating valves and blowouts in water mains and making repairs. Performs routine electric and/or acetylene welding, brazing and/or soldering repairs and fabrications as required. Checks, adjusts and maintains equipment service records. Prepares routine reports and maintains daily records and logs. Reads and interprets blueprints as required to repair, maintain or build equipment. Maintains inventory of equipment, spare parts and other required materials, initiates orders or recommendations for required parts and equipment or additional stock. May standby for and answer emergency calls to repair equipment on an "on call, 24 hour per day" basis. Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- Three years experience in disciplines relating to public works and water utility operations, such as welding, millwright, plumbing, pump repair, pipelaying, heavy equipment operation and machine operation.
- Possess and maintain a valid Class "B" or higher State of Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Assignment Specific Requirements: Intermediate MOT Certificate, assignment in Distribution & Collections.
- Possess and maintain a Backflow Assembly Testing Certification, assignment in Distribution & Collections.
- Level III Water Distribution License in Water Distribution, assignment in Distribution
- C License in Waste Water or Reclaimed Water, assignment in Collections and Plant & Lift Station Maintenance.
- Tanker Endorsement, assignment in Distribution or Collection, Facility Maintenance, Plant & Lift Stations Maintenance.
- A current ISA certification as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (CIMM) or similar certification in Industrial Maintenance, assignment in Plant & Lift Station Maintenance.
- A current Building Systems Maintenance Certification (SMC) through BOMA or similar current certification in facilities maintenance, assignment in Facilities Maintenance.
