About the role

This position serves as a Lead Medical Support Assistant in the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) or Specialty Care Support Team, with overall responsibility to the Supervisory Medical Support Assistant. The mission of the Ambulatory Care & Processing section is to provide administrative and clerical assistance, guidance and support to the medical staff and to manage the day to day activity in the outpatient treatment clinics ensuring that established policies and procedures are followed. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f). Grade Determinations: Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate [all of] the KSAs below: Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff. Ability to provide staff development and training. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics. Preferred Experience: 2 years experience working in a clinical environment coordinating clinic schedules for providers (e.g. medical doctors nurse practitioners, physician assistants, psychologists/psychiatrists). 2 years experience scheduling patients in a medical appointment software in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. 2 years experience with medical terminology in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. 2 years experience managing patient communications in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model. (e.g. telephone and/or e-mail). 18 months experience in manage priorities, and coordinate duties with limited Supervisory oversight and the ability to train staff in accordance with directives.
