Water Spider (Manufacturing Material Support) Job Description Role Summary: The Water Spider is a high-impact role that maintains continuous material flow and line readiness across glass, IGU, vinyl, and screen operations. This position ensures the right materials are at the right place at the right time, removes empties, manages carts and tags, supports quality flow, and fills line-side Kanban-eliminating bottlenecks and enabling teams to hit takt. Core Responsibilities (Daily/Ongoing): Line Readiness & Cart Flow: - Stage correct glass carts for HM and Erdman feeders; remove empty carts. - Maintain two empty IGU carts at HM and Erdman offload areas; remove full carts; distribute patched IGUs. - Ensure vinyl lines have correct full IGU carts on deck; verify remake/patch carts for sliders. - Retrieve empty IGU and screen carts; return to glass or cart return area. Quality, Remakes & Truck Glass: - Deliver specified glass to QA lab; notify technicians. - Monitor truck glass request log; deliver and annotate deliveries. - Collect remake tags and truck tags; deliver to correct locations. Materials & Kanban: - Fill line-side Kanban from Kanban rack. - Collect materials requisitions and place in Materials inbox. - Maintain 5S standards and workstation organization. Area-Specific Responsibilities: Incoming - Tempered Glass: - Receive and inspect incoming tempered glass. - Sort and deliver glass for Erdman; remove empty harp carts. - Stage glass for Intercept and Ultracept lines in sequence. Incoming - Screens: - Receive and inspect incoming screens. - Sort by batch, color, and production line. - Deliver screens to lines; remove empty carts. Glass Lines / Pit: Cutting: - Move completed harp carts to Edge Delete tables. - Stage carts in batch sequence. Intercept / Extruder: - Swap uncoilers; load new coils. - Swap empty drums on extruder pumps. - Move full IG carts to pit; stage empties at offloads. Vinyl Lines: - Pre-cut and stage bead by batch and color. - Receive and stage screens and glass in sequence. - Return empty screen and IG carts. - Inventory supermarket and hardware; order restock. - Maintain hardware storage and remake inventory. - Order and receive remake glass. - Stage balancers in sequence. Periodic & Future-State Responsibilities: - Monitor empty IGU cart supply; notify Leads if below six. - Check Opt 3 for completed carts; move to deleter. - Consolidate partial IGU carts; slot remakes. - Check Hegla racks; requisition and book new inventory. - Monitor door and precut glass; request replenishment. Team Support & Continuous Improvement: - Provide relief coverage for associates to avoid bottlenecks. - Assist with end-of-line inspection quality checks. - Train and mentor associates. - Collaborate with Leads and Supervisors to resolve issues. - Report hazards and equipment problems. - Meet takt time and standardized work requirements. - Participate in improving standard work and 5S. - Support a respectful workplace. Starting wage of $22.00 per hour Physical & Work Conditions: - Frequent walking and pushing/pulling carts. - Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. - Work in fast-paced manufacturing environment. Success Metrics (KPIs): - Line readiness percentage. - Zero-delays due to missing materials. - Delivery response time. - Cart discipline and accuracy. - Safety and 5S audit performance. - Manufacturing/material handling experience preferred. - Strong urgency, sequencing, and organizational skills. - Effective communication with QA, Leads, and operators. - Ability to use logs, tags, and basic inventory tools. - Ability to handle PIT/cart certification if required.
