Organization: GME IT Job Summary: The Application Developer is a key member of the Graduate Medical Education (GME) IT team and contributes to the design, development, and maintenance of software applications. This role is responsible for coding, testing, debugging, and assisting with technical documentation to support application life cycles. Reporting to the Senior Application Developer, this role works closely with senior team members to deliver development initiatives and enhance existing applications. Responsibilities include developing or enhancing applications, providing Tier 2 application support, and assisting with server and system maintenance as needed. This role also contributes to improving IT processes and ensuring that development work is appropriately documented. The Application Developer supports the integrity and security of institutional data by adhering to all VUMC policies, procedures, and best practices. . About the Work Unit The Graduate Medical Education (GME) team supports over 1,200 house staff across approximately 187 residency and fellowship programs. Vanderbilt University Medical Center provides training in a major academic teaching environment, offering diverse patient populations, state-of-the-art technology, cutting-edge research, and exceptional faculty. The Office of Graduate Medical Education is dedicated to supporting trainees, faculty, and staff as they prepare new physicians for their careers. GME strives to create a collaborative environment of excellence and leverages innovative technologies to enhance IT systems used in training Vanderbilt house staff. Our team works collectively to advance this mission, providing comprehensive support in academic program administration, educational design and informatics, financial and administrative operations, student services, and educational research resources. Key Functions and Expected Performance Participates in solution design, coding, testing, implementation, and documentation under the guidance of senior developers. Assists in developing program specifications and ensuring applications meet performance and quality standards. Collaborates with technical teams to diagnose and resolve moderately complex technical issues and support system configurations and integrations. Analyzes user needs and demonstrates an understanding of business requirements for assigned tasks and projects. Works with senior developers to learn and apply best practices in technical design, coding standards, and development methodologies. Designs, writes, tests, implements, and debugs applications in accordance with established software engineering practices and development guidelines. Assists in monitoring system performance to identify issues and recommend improvements. Performs application testing and validation, including creating and executing unit tests, and contributes to quality assurance efforts. Contributes to continuous improvement of development processes, including code quality, maintainability, and reliability. Supports a collaborative team environment and stays current with emerging technologies and development practices. Education and Certifications A bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution of higher education is required . Experience and Skills Experience with C#, ASP.NET, ASP.NET Core , Microsoft SQL Server, IIS, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, HTML, CSS, Git, and source control is required. Exposure to WPF applications, Power Platform, Microsoft server deployment, front-end technologies (React, Vue, or Angular), and MS Office products is preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users at all levels of an organization is required. TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES - Application Development (Intermediate): Demonstrates proficiency of programming and other development tasks independently and without support from others for moderate to difficult applications. Has conducted all of the tasks and activities required to complete the applications development phase and participated in the process of fully implementing the system.
