Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapist

Responsibilities

• In this role, you will:
• Assess, diagnose, and manage adults presenting with communication and swallowing disorders within acute inpatient services. - Deliver evidence-based interventions for patients with dysphagia, acquired communication disorders, cognitive-communication difficulties, and neurological conditions. - Undertake comprehensive swallowing assessments and provide appropriate management plans to support safe nutrition and hydration. - Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including medical staff, nursing teams, dietitians, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists. - Participate in ward rounds, case discussions, and discharge planning meetings. - Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in accordance with professional and organisational standards. - Provide advice, education, and support to patients, families, carers, and healthcare professionals. - Contribute to service development initiatives and support junior colleagues where appropriate.
• Qualifications and Experience
• To be considered for this role, you must have:
• A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent). - Current HCPC registration. - Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). - Previous experience working within adult acute inpatient services. - Experience managing patients with dysphagia and complex communication needs. - Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills. - The ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
