Compensation Range - Starting Salary Range 0-0 Job Description Summary An immersive training program for youth ages 14 to 20 who are interested in law enforcement or related careers, offering instruction in key areas of law enforcement operations. Job Description Duties & Responsibilities Duties may vary based on assignment. Attend regularly scheduled training sessions covering topics such as: Traffic enforcement Arrest procedures Crisis intervention Active shooter response Tactical medicine Participate in agency-approved community events and exercises. Engage in practical scenario-based activities to reinforce law enforcement principles. Support deputies during community outreach, educational events, or public demonstrations. Represent the Sheriff's Office Explorer Program in competitions, conferences, and recruitment activities. Ride as passenger observer in Sheriff's vehicles for educational purposes (age 18 and up). Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge & Abilities Willingness to learn and participate in team-based activities. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to maintain professionalism and discipline in all Explorer activities. Ability to communicate effectively with peers and adult mentors. Ability to adhere to safety and conduct guidelines. Ability to maintain good academic standing and program attendance. Ability to carry and lift up to 30 pounds. Ability to march in formation. Ability to do a minimum of 10 pushups. Working Conditions Work within a structured law enforcement learning environment under deputy supervision. May work outdoors in a subtropical climate in potential adverse weather conditions. May stand or sit at a workstation for prolonged periods, walk long distances, or participate in simulated law enforcement exercises. May receive instruction and participate in supervised firearms safety training; under no circumstances may an Explorer carry, deploy, or use firearms outside of approved training settings. Required to wear a Sherif's Office provided uniform. Regular attendance at Explorer meetings, training, and events; Required to meet every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Minimum Education & Experience Between the ages of 14 and 20. Enrolled in school or have completed high school. Maintain at least an overall grade point average (GPA) of a 2.5 on a 4.0 grading scale, or an overall "C". Required Pre-Employment Testing Completion of pre-employment testing. Additional Program Requirements Completion of Explorer application, essay, waivers, and medical consent forms. Parental or guardian consent (under age 18). No serious school disciplinary history or criminal involvement. Successful completion of a criminal history search. Adherence to the Explorer Code of Conduct and program rules. Upon acceptance as a probationary member, a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of fifty dollars ($50.00) is required.
