Who we're looking for Toyota's Manufacturing IT Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated IIoT Senior Systems Engineer . The primary responsibility of this position is to partner with manufacturing teams to design, develop, and deploy IIoT and SCADA solutions supporting manufacturing operations across production areas at TBMNC. Reporting to the IIoT Platform & Gemba Enablement manager , the person in this role will support the Manufacturing IT department's objective to enable team members to quickly solve problems by ensuring accurate, real-time data is available and seamlessly connected across manufacturing systems. This position is based in Liberty, NC. The selected candidate will be expected to reside within a commutable distance of this location. This position will require in-plant work.

Responsibilities

  • Building high-fidelity data ingestion and data visibility systems capable of handling hundreds of thousands of real time messages with sustained throughput at production scale.
  • Providing our customers with highly reliable applications and systems that meet their business and process needs, developed in systems like: Ignition SCADA, .NET/C#, Typescript, Go, and Angular
  • Developing load testing platforms enabling repeatable stress testing of industrial systems and messaging infrastructure prior to production deployment.
  • Produce and maintain living architecture documentation, design specifications, and technical decision records.
  • Enable and coach team members to build their own solutions and to use platform tools effectively.
  • Collaborate with TBMNC engineering, production, logistics, maintenance, and quality teams to understand business process and translate into solution requirements.
  • Evaluate emerging industrial technologies and provide strategic recommendations for integration into manufacturing environments.
  • What you bring
  • Bachelor's degree and/or 5 or more years of equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in software development (Python, JavaScript, Go, or similar)
  • 3+ years of experience with containerization (Docker) or modern micros services (Kubernetes/k3s)
  • 3+ years of experience administrating Linux environments (Ubuntu, RHEL, or similar)
  • 5+ years of experience querying and updating SQL databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL)
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills using 5 Why including protocol analysis and reverse engineering
  • Added bonus if you have
  • Experience with Ignition platform (Perspective, Designer, gateway architecture, scripting)
  • Experience with PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron, Siemens, or equivalent)
  • Experience working in an Agile team using Kanban boards to drive work
  • Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP)
  • Utilizing coding agents like Copilot, or Claude Code to accelerate your work
  • Experience using Sparkplug B, MQTT, and OPC UA/DA protocols in a manufacturing environment
  • Machine vision, RFID, or barcode integration experience
  • Greenfield manufacturing facility startup experience
