About the role

The Senior Manager of Packaging, you will work within the Supply Chain team to develop and maintain packaging optimization and compliance. This is a proactive, high-impact role in securing critical components, materials, and services that protect and transport our products. This role will be responsible for managing packaging operations and engineering that can be incorporated into new products, as well as existing products to improve their technologies, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategies for packaging operations and engineering, focusing on cost reduction, quality improvement, and supply chain resilience
  • Partner with Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain to design packaging that protects high-value and sensitive technology during transport, storage, and deployment
  • Implement End-to-End packaging management measures and audits to ensure accuracy and to mitigate packaging issues. This includes the development & improvement of critical metrics
  • Lead the design of internal packaging solutions for delivering and presenting parts to the production line and work with the Material Flow Engineering and Industrial Engineering teams on the implementation
  • Partner with the Engineering team, Supply Chain and Contract Manufacturers to influence technical design specs and customize product and manufacturing requirements
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to support prototype requirements, execute against build milestones, and lead sourcing activities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including procurement, production, manufacturing engineering, logistics, and quality, to aid in accurate demand forecasting, procurement planning, and timely delivery of packaging and materials
  • Collaborate with production planning and manufacturing teams to align packaging availability with production schedules, minimize disruptions, and meet customer demand on time
  • Analyze packaging usage trends, identify opportunities for process improvements, and implement lean practices to optimize material handling, storage, and distribution
  • Utilize ERP & WMS software systems and tools to track packaging inventory, generate reports, and provide data-driven insights to support decision-making and optimize material-related processes
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and quality control protocols in all material management activities
  • Lead and develop a high-performing warehouse team, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback to foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, engineering, or related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in supply chain management of complex hardware packaging and/or sourcing engineering
  • 3+ years of experience managing and developing a team of direct reports
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Ability to relocate, if not already local to be onsite in Costa Mesa, CA

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or materials engineering
  • Previous experience in defense, aerospace, automotive, high tech, or related industry
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain principles, inventory management techniques, and material planning strategies
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions
  • Proficiency in using software systems and tools
  • Solid understanding of lean principles and experience in implementing process improvement initiatives
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of safety and regulatory compliance standards related to packaging compliance and material management activities
  • US Salary Range
  • $166,000 - $220,000 USD
  • The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills
