About the role

The Account Manager shall be responsible for retention and growth of profitable membership for an assigned group of self-funded business. The Account Manager will work with the group long term to evaluate drivers of health care costs. They will conduct meetings with high level executives and other plan administrators and will demonstrate excellent sales techniques and consultative skills to uncover the group's issues and needs and provide recommendations and solutions to meet those needs. They will develop strategies to build positive relationships with employers, brokers, and consultants to maintain and grow profitable membership in the IHC portfolio of products and services. They will be accountable for meeting monthly productivity goals and fully utilizing systems to maintain extensive records of renewal and relationship building activity.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred. It is a condition of employment that the applicant shall have the license required to sell health insurance in the state of New York at the time of employment or obtain that license within 90 days of commencing employment.
  • Four (4) years of successful corporate sales/account management experience required, health insurance industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with self-funded business is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to gather information, determine needs and provide solutions.
  • Ability to leverage relationships to facilitate growth.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally via the telephone as well as in person.
  • Ability to communicate complex messages with a wide range of audiences on an internal and external basis.
  • Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with brokers, employers and leadership.
  • Excellent public speaking/group presentation skills.
  • Strong computer skills required including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the ability to learn and utilize contact management systems such as Salesforce in an effective and efficient manner to document all activity and proposal generations.
  • Ability to learn and utilize claims platform such as Health Rules to research member claim and enrollment activity.
  • Ability to work hours outside of core business hours.
  • Local travel required. Any Independent Health associate who uses a motor vehicle in the course of their duties representing Independent Health must be compliant with State Motor Vehicle laws and must follow the Policy that pertains to Driver's License Requirements as a condition of employment.

  • Essential Accountabilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key decision makers and brokers to facilitate member retention and growth in existing clients and to support new customer opportunities.
  • Develop and execute group specific strategies for key clients leveraging understanding of employer's challenges and opportunities. Document strategy and tactics in business plan.
  • Deliver appropriate messaging to all clients demonstrating IH value proposition.
  • Lead implementation process to seamlessly onboard new clients.
  • Promote ancillary programs and services - Wellness Offerings, Reimbursement Accounts and COBRA in line with business strategy.
  • Collect necessary information to analyze medical plan performance and use judgement to recommend alternatives to clients including associated financial costs and risks.
  • Present Independent Health programs and services to employee groups during open enrollment meetings.
  • Work closely with brokers and external vendors to coordinate account activity.
  • Coordinate to deliver meaningful reporting to employers, brokers and consultants.
  • Assist with the development and coordination of related events in the book of business or market segment.
  • Collaborate with other members of the organization to provide value-added services and information to identified accounts.
  • Provide on-site staffing at community/employer-based events. Will require after hours and weekends.
  • Extended hours may be required during peak season.

  • Hiring Compensation Range: $65,000 - $85,000 annually + Sales Incentive
  • Compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to skills, education, location and experience.
  • In addition to base compensation, associates may be eligible for a scorecard incentive, full range of benefits and generous paid time off. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
