About the role

A Software Engineer (Backend) at IFS designs, develops, tests, and maintains backend components of IFS products. The role includes writing clean, efficient, secure, and scalable code, participating in design and code reviews, and applying sound engineering principles. Engineers also contribute to improving the codebase, documentation, and development processes. They take part in automation and pipeline efficiency by applying foundational DevOps practices such as CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and cloud‑ready development. The engineer proactively prevents issues and resolves them quickly when they arise. They **Essential Duties & Accountabilities 1. Backend Software Design & Development Design and develop backend services and components based on functional and technical requirements. Ensure performance, security, maintainability, and scalability. Use established software engineering best practices, patterns, and architectural guidelines. Take ownership of assigned tasks and contribute to technical initiatives. 2. Testing, Debugging & Code Quality Debug and resolve backend issues; evaluate alternative solutions where necessary. Ensure appropriate test coverage (unit, integration, API tests). Participate in code reviews, contributing constructive improvement feedback. 3. DevOps‑Related Responsibilities (Foundational Level) (Adapted from DevOps responsibilities but proportionate to a Software Engineer role) Use and contribute to CI/CD pipelines for automated building, testing, and deployment. Write backend code that is cloud‑ready, container‑ready, instrumented for logging and monitoring. Apply fundamental DevSecOps practices (dependency scanning, secure coding, basic automation). Collaborate closely with DevOps/platform engineering to ensure smooth releases and efficient developer experience. 4. AI‑Driven Engineering Responsibilities Use of recommended AI tools (GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, Any Given commercial tools) AI‑assisted coding, refactoring, testing, documentation AI‑powered architecture/design review AI‑enabled observability & anomaly detection Experimentation with new AI capabilities Continuous feedback loop into engineering leadership Alignment with emerging IFS platform AI strategy Fully aligned with: Your previous Software Engineer (mid) scope DevOps foundations AI adoption expectations for modern engineering teams 5. Documentation Create and maintain technical documentation including API specs, architecture decisions, and system-level designs. 6. Stakeholder Engagement Work with requirement owners, architects, and QA to ensure functional fit and technical quality. Provide solution options and participate in technical estimations. Support prototyping and early validation efforts. 7. Knowledge Sharing & Collaboration Share knowledge with peers, mentor junior team members at a basic‑to‑intermediate level. Promote good engineering practices and continuous improvement. 8. Product/Program Contribution Assist in product-related market understanding and provide inputs into technical direction. Required Competence Areas Using the Software Engineer competency matrix as baseline. 1. Technical Design & Programming Strong analytical, logical, and problem‑solving skills. Proficiency in at least one backend programming language. Understanding of algorithms, data structures, design patterns. 2. Documentation Ability to document code, design choices, and architecture decisions. 3. Performance, Reliability & Security Understanding of caching, indexing, scalability concepts. Familiarity with secure coding and OWASP basics. 4. DevOps & Cloud Fundamentals Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and ability to contribute to build/test automation. Basic containerization skills (Docker) and cloud‑ready design patterns. Familiarity with observability basics (logs, metrics, traces). Exposure to infrastructure-as-code or cloud environments is a plus (Terraform, Azure, etc.). 5. Collaboration & Leadership Able to participate in technical discussions and offer inputs. Provides support to less experienced engineers. Works independently on medium complexity tasks. Required Education & Experience Essential University degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science,
