Plant Maintenance Engineer I

Requirements

• Four (4) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of steam generating plants and maintenance and repair of water, heating and electrical systems in a large commercial or public plant.
• LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
• Possession of an engineer's license of the class required by the State of Maine for the equipment to be operated.
• Preference will be given to those who:
• Experience in residential or commercial HVAC preferred.
• Candidates with a boiler license or High-Pressure Steam engineer license will be considered
• Experience in Geothermal, Solar a plus.
• Journeyman Fuel Oil license or Natural gas/Propane gas tech license and or Universal Refrigeration license or a Plumbers license.
• The ability to gain a Boiler Operators license within 6 months.
• Valid state of Maine driver's license.

Monitors and maintains HVAC equipment including air handlers, VAVs, Circulator pumps, Chiller systems etc. Performs the more skilled and complex maintenance jobs in order to ensure heating plant operates correctly and work is properly done. Coordinates their daily maintenance and service with agency facility managers. Keeps related records and prepares reports in order to document activities and provide information for administrative review and planning purposes. Requisitions supplies and materials needed in the operation and maintenance of the plant and mechanical department in order to ensure availability of needed items. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of heating plant operations and maintenance. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the mechanical and building trades. Knowledge of various mechanical systems. Steam plant, HVAC systems etc. Ability to use of a variety of power and hand tools. Ability to read plans and to work from sketches and specifications. Ability to plan, assign, and direct the work of journeymen, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers. Ability to keep records and make reports.
