About the role
Veterinary Surgical Specialists of Orange County (VSSOC) is seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician to join our Surgery & Anesthesia team. This role is ideal for an RVT who enjoys working closely with board-certified surgeons and takes pride in delivering exceptional perioperative and anesthetic care. In this position, you will play a vital role in surgical nursing, anesthesia induction and monitoring, and patient recovery, supporting a wide variety of specialty procedures in a fast-paced, high-standard environment. Core Responsibilities Perform all essential duties of a Registered Veterinary Technician with a focus on surgery and anesthesia Prepare surgical suites, equipment, and instrumentation for a variety of procedures Induce, monitor, and recover patients under anesthesia for routine, advanced, and high-risk surgical cases Provide comprehensive anesthetic monitoring, including: ECG Blood pressure Capnography Pulse oximetry Temperature Ventilator settings CRIs Blood gas measurements Accurately calculate, administer, and manage anesthetic and analgesic medications Assist surgeons before, during, and after surgical procedures Maintain sterile technique and assist with surgical scrubbing, gowning, and gloving Place and maintain IV catheters, arterial lines, and urinary catheters as needed Provide attentive post-operative care, pain management, and recovery monitoring Monitor, document, and communicate changes in patient status to the medical team Maintain accurate anesthetic records, surgical logs, and medical documentation Provide professional and compassionate client communication when appropriate Uphold hospital standards with courtesy, professionalism, and empathy at all times Job Requirements Active California RVT license (or ability to transfer from out of state) Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician Prior experience in surgery and anesthesia required Comfortable monitoring ASA III+ patients Strong understanding of anesthetic agents, equipment, and monitoring modalities Ability to multitask while remaining detail-oriented in a fast-paced surgical setting Excellent communication and teamwork skills Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs and assist with team lifts for larger patients
