Description of Work This position is located at Caldwell Correctional Center in Caldwell County, NC, which houses Minimum Custody Male Offenders. Work in this position involves first-line supervision to Correctional Officer I's in minimum-custody facilities, increasing the custody and security coverage. Position may at times be the highest-ranking custody staff on the grounds or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC). Position reports to a Correctional Warden and/or a Correctional Assistant Warden. Key Duties Include: - Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. - Supervising and assigning subordinate officers to a particular area or post. - Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms. - Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready. - Responsible for subordinate officers' activities relating to the custody and welfare of offenders. - Working rotating and various duty assignments within the defined level of work. - Position arranges work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures and ensure rules and regulations are followed according to policy. - Responds to emergency situations, searches for escaped offenders and transports offenders. - Conducts and/or supervises searches of offenders, their living quarters and work areas for contraband. - Investigates and takes action, where appropriate regarding security issues, incident, disputes and complaints.
