Contract: Full Time (1FTE), Open Ended Closing: Thursday 30th July 2026 Role Description The Institute of Earth and Life Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh is seeking an outstanding individual for an open-ended (tenured) Assistant Professorship (Teaching and Scholarly Activity) position in Sport Rehabilitation. We are looking for a candidate who has expertise in sport rehabilitation, sport injury/therapy, and musculoskeletal health. You will be an enthusiastic and friendly individual with proven communication and interpersonal skills who is committed to enriching the student experience through your professional expertise. You will contribute to teaching delivery on the BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Science programme, provide pastoral care to students, and supervise a range of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects. Prior experience of higher education teaching in the areas of sport rehabilitation, sport injury/therapy, and musculoskeletal health would be a distinct advantage. We are also looking for someone who can expand our partnerships in professional sport and enhance the employability of our graduates by supporting them to obtain industry-recognised professional qualifications. Education, Qualifications and Experience Essential A Masters degree in a relevant (Sport rehabilitation, Sport Therapy, Sport and Exercise Science, Physiotherapy) or related discipline. Prior experience of teaching in a higher education environment Relevant industry experience in sport rehabilitation, sport injury or sport therapy, and ability to draw on this to support student learning Emotional intelligence, with a demonstrable collegiate attitude and proven interpersonal skills Desirable Accreditation or professional practice qualification from an appropriate professional body in Sport Rehabilitation or Sport Science (e.g CSP, BASRaT, SST, UKSCA, CASES) A track record of research, including peer-reviewed publications in journals PhD in a relevant discipline Experience of teaching sport rehabilitation content in higher education Experience of module design and leadership A higher education teaching qualification and/or fellowship of Advance HE Ability to draw on industrial and professional networks to develop and enhance the teaching and research portfolio.
