Description of Work This position is located at Foothills Correctional Institution in Burke County, NC., this s a close/minimum custody male facility. Reporting to the Correctional Housing Unit Manager II, or Correctional Lieutenant III this position provides supervision for subordinate officers regarding their assigned tasks with male inmates in a Minimum/Medium/Close custody state correctional facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 1- Conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post 2- Supervising and assigning subordinate officers to a particular area or post. 3- Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms. 4- Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready. 5- Responsible for subordinate officers' activities relating to the custody and welfare of offenders. 6- Working rotating and various duty assignments within the defined level of work. To be considered for a Correctional Sergeant III position, ALL applicants must : Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302) Pass a criminal background check Produce a negative drug screening result Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations Possess a valid driver's license Required Adverse Weather Reporting : This position is designated as "Mandatory" and must report or stay over during adverse weather events. About the Division of Institutions : The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
