Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Cloud Platform database infrastructure that development teams across SumUp depend on for reliability, performance, and security
- Lead the migration of legacy RDS databases to Aurora PostgreSQL, contributing directly to a large-scale infrastructure transformation
- Design and implement automation, monitoring, and infrastructure-as-code improvements that reduce manual effort and raise overall code quality
- Collaborate with Platform and development teams to standardise database usage, lower resource costs, and enable self-service tooling
- Implement security guidelines and contribute to PCI and DORA audit requirements, ensuring compliance is embedded into the infrastructure from the ground up

- Deep hands-on knowledge of PostgreSQL, AWS services (RDS, EC2, S3, VPC, IAM), and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
- Experience with at least one programming language, with Go, Python, or JavaScript preferred, applied to automating complex database operations
- Experience applying CI/CD principles to infrastructure workflows, with a solid understanding of containerisation and Kubernetes
- Comfort navigating legacy and modern systems simultaneously, managing competing priorities with a structured and analytical approach

SumUp is looking for a Senior Database DevOps Engineer to join our team in Sofia. In this role, you will develop and maintain the Cloud Platform infrastructure related to databases that serves as the foundation for our development teams. You will play a critical part in ensuring the availability, performance, and security of our databases by implementing automation and improving infrastructure code quality. We are looking for an expert who can help us shift database ownership "left" safely through standardized automation and deep-level guardrails. You will collaborate closely with Platform Infrastructure and Development teams to lower costs, improve self-service tooling, and actively participate in audits related to our database infrastructure.
