A Brief Summary of This Position This is an individual contributor position responsible for performing most functions of the preventive and repair maintenance, electrical, electronic and mechanical work for the Utility Division with proficiency. The Maintenance Technician is also responsible for fabrication of fixtures using welding, cutting and soldering. Associate must adhere to Valmont safety training policies. The Maintenance Technician performs preventive maintenance and repairs on all plant equipment and facilities with a learned level of proficiency. This person is also responsible for maintaining and repairing plant equipment, including pneumatic and mechanical systems, clutches, brakes, combustion engines, and electrical and hydraulic systems. The associate performs basic electrical work and fabricates fixtures with limited to no instruction. This person is responsible for documenting the amount of labor used and materials used on each repair in MaintainX. Shift Available: Weekend Nights 6PM - 6:15AM Essential Functions: Test, inspect, repair, troubleshoot and re-assemble basic plant equipment, components, and systems including but not limited to overhead bridge cranes, hoists, gear boxes, forklifts, straddle trucks, company vehicles, pneumatic and mechanical systems, combustion engines electrical and hydraulic systems Perform basic electrical work and assist in highly skilled electrical work Fabricate fixtures using welding, cutting, soldering, and surface hardening applications Communicate with supervisor and other maintenance and production team members via e-mail, phone, and face-to-face Responsible for working with small hand tools including tape measures, micrometers, saws, drills, riveters, and nail guns and maintaining tools and equipment Complete record logs including labor, repairs made, equipment, and use of materials on the computer Ability to fabricate and repair metal structures and components Perform calibrations on various equipment Responsible for reading basic blueprints Submit 2 safety contact cards on a monthly basis Performs other duties as directed by leaders and management Important Details about the Role Knowledgeable with plant equipment Knowledgeable with basic testing, troubleshooting, disassembly, inspecting, precise measuring, repair and re-assembly of all plant equipment and components with limited instruction Identify and report equipment abnormalities and safety hazards Must be company tested and authorized to operate a forklift, cranes, genie boom and scissor lift Assist in general plant clean up and housekeeping This position reports to the Facilities Manager and has no direct reports Associate will indirectly report to the Maintenance Lead person on their respective shift Assist in general plant clean up and housekeeping Some of the work performed will be individually. Essential tools and equipment will be provided; however, accountability and maintenance of tools will be the employee's responsibility. Actively participate in department safety, demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety/company policies and procedures. Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Apprenticeship with accredited school or no experience The ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions in English Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook Communicate problems or needs to departmental supervision Communicate and interact with coworkers in a professional manner Pay attention to detail and follow work instructions High awareness for safety and following all requirements for safety at Valmont (adhere to all Valmont policies) Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work in a non-temperature controlled environment, as well as with exposure to outdoors Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, although most frequent lift is up to 30 pounds Ability to be company trained and authorized to operate powered industrial trucks, aerial platforms and bridge cranes in arc flash safety, confined space entry, hazardous energy control, and fall protection Ability to spend 95% of workday standing or walkin
