Description of Work Positions in this class are characterized by their performance of a variety of basic hospitality, visitor services, and office support duties. Position requires knowledge of the office or work unit policies and procedures to communicate information involving programs, functions, and services. Duties performed may include preparation of documents and reports, the use of office technology, compiling records, organizing and maintaining files, posting information, greeting, referring, assisting visitors, clients, staff, and others, mail distribution, and photocopying. To engage and welcome the public by providing clear greetings, orientations, and introductions to the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Coordinate and organize museum volunteer schedules. - Visitor and Group Orientation. - Assist the public in answering questions or addressing concerns. - Assist staff with public and educational programming when needed. - Keep track of and compile visitation statistics and reports for Museum Manager, make museum purchases, keep track of supply inventories, etc. as assigned. - Visitor Center/Front Desk Responsibilities include keeping front desk and public areas stocked, clean, and orderly. Applicants who possess the following are preferred: - Proficient with Microsoft Outlook and/or other time management/calendar software. - Previous experience interacting with the general public. - Previous experience working with volunteers. Previous museum, public history, or hospitality experience. Position/Physical Requirements Tuesday - Saturday, 8:30am - 5:00pm - Light work: Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Section/Unit Description The Maritime Museum is part of the Division of State History Museums and is dedicated to the preservation, advancement, and presentation of maritime history, shipwrecks, and related natural history of coastal North Carolina.
