$17.50 HourlyGeneral Description/Primary PurposeJob FunctionProvide customer service to our guest, students, and parents as this position will be the first point of contact.Manages front office processes to ensure the efficient welcoming and referral of faculty, staff and student visitors to academic advising in COAS.Performs one or more advising administrative functions while working directly with students and families to answer educational questions and concerns.Provides one-on-one assistance to the public in person, over the telephone, and through e-mail or other written correspondence.Performs related duties as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishment of the responsibilities and functions of his/her area(s).Problem solves and trouble shoots.Collects and analyzes data as appropriate with discretionary use under FERPA rules, for use in handling all student activities.May serve as liaison between university administrators, students, parents, faculty, staff, and others regarding advising activities.Will maintain communication with other departments and vendors on departmental business needs.May recommend policies and procedures to help ensure effective coordination of departmental programs.May assist in the design, development and implementation of departmental processes and or programs.Academic Support Specialist will be empowered to address issues raised by students consistent with department and University policies and procedures. Instructions will be given for new projects and specific completion dates required.Marginal FunctionsMust be able to work on the occasional Saturday to assist/participate in university events.During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off campus location or place of residence.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree or a high school diploma and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.Departmental RequirementsExperience working in customer service setting required.Experience in higher education admissions/enrollment services experience strongly encouraged, but not required.Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills (both spoken and written) are required.Must possess a strong sense of the importance of customer service.Must be well organized.Must have capacity to learn and implement strong conflict resolution skills.Must have strong computer skills.Total support of the goals, initiatives, policies and procedures of Academic Advising as set by both the President and the Provost is required.Must be intimately familiar with all aspects of University and College policies along with the operations of other units with whom common collaboration is needed.Must be familiar with or be willing and able to quickly and accurately learn the policies, practices and functions of the University of North Florida.Must be able to perform processing and work tasks.Statement(s) of UnderstandingThis position requires a background check.
