Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Development Finance Origination team (particularly on larger and more complex transactions) close involvement in the early stages of the transaction identifying potential issues ahead of credit approval.
  • For more complex and higher value loans, support close monitoring of key conditions of sanction against the underlying IMS reporting cycle - for example have key planning conditions been met and/or infrastructure milestones adhered to.
  • Management of the IMS Panel including monitoring of performance and providing feedback to IMS firms to ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • On a periodic basis, review a sample of IMS reports which are not noted as experiencing any adverse issues to ensure accurate reporting.
  • For distressed deals which we are looking to exit, close engagement with NPL team to ensure continued oversight of these deals and advice on technical construction aspects (including ongoing involvement in IMS reporting where applicable);
  • Close interaction with the respective Portfolio Managers to assist with reporting to Group Credit. The primary aim to aid the credit reporting process based on underlying knowledge of the development.
  • Management of stakeholder relationships, internally - 1st line Credit teams, Group Credit, peers and colleagues across lending divisions, compliance and client support functions.
  • Principal external stakeholders - Shawbrook development finance customers; Speciality Finance customers with a development / property focus; IMS/QS advisory firms.
  • Undertaking site visits to support both Origination and in life development schemes by reviewing sites from a technical construction perspective and identifying any key risks.
  • Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or another RICS accredited construction degree qualification. Chartered status is preferred but not essential for the right candidate.

  • The role requires in-depth knowledge of the development finance market with first-hand experience of the preparation of IMS reports or working as a QS/CM/PM on residential developments.
  • Strong analytical skills, including good knowledge of Excel, being able to manage and handle complex issues.
  • Good commercial awareness of the property / development finance market.
  • Excellent team player, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact and build rapport with individuals/stakeholders at various levels of the organisation, both internally as well as externally.
  • Influencing skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of management, external advisors and committees.

Development Finance is a key part of Structured Lending division and the principal objective of the role is to provide in-house construction technical expertise to the Development Finance portfolio, and other areas of the Bank, to assist with effective risk management. This role will be reporting to and working closely with the Director of Development and Construction Risk. This role will focus on assisting with the following. Whilst the main part of the role will be to deal with Shawbrook's direct development finance deals the intention is to also provide oversight of those Borrowers in other areas of the Bank who are involved in Development finance, Real Estate and Construction. The role will include site visits throughout the UK including London, the South East, Midlands, the North, the South West and Scotland.
