About the role
Department The Cell Surface Signalling laboratory led by Professor Gavin Wright is interested in identifying the molecular basis of cellular recognition processes in both health and disease. The aims of the laboratory's research are to understand how cells interact both within our own bodies and with pathogens to inform the rational design of novel intervention strategies for the treatment and prevention of genetic and infectious diseases. We have a current focus on scaling our human receptor screening technologies for host-pathogen interactions and profiling the binding specificity of therapeutic antibodies to make safer medicines faster. The Hull York Medical School and associated Department of Biology and York Biomedical Research Institute are recognised world leaders in biochemistry and parasitology research, and you will join a vibrant environment of scientific researchers who are dedicated to tackling these important problems in global health. Role We are looking for a scientist to help with creating of our genome-scale arrays of human cell surface receptors. You will be responsible for expressing and purifying large numbers of recombinant proteins produced in a mammalian expression system and using this protein array to discover new host-pathogen interaction and test the binding specificity of therapeutic antibodies. We are looking for a detail-orientated person who has biochemical training with experience in recombinant protein expression and purification, ideally using mammalian or insect cell expression systems. Skills, Experience & Qualifications Needed A higher degree in a biochemistry-related subject or equivalent work experience. Experience in recombinant protein expression and purification, ideally in mammalian or insect cell lines. Experience in cell culture. Experience in recombinant protein purification and characterisation. Highly organised and reliable personality. Knowledge of the UK laboratory regulatory compliance such as health and safety. Collaborative attitude to support the progress of a wider team.
